Master of Public Health Disaster Management

Academic Mission

The Master of Public Health in Disaster Management program at Makerere University is designed to equip public health professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively prepare for, respond to, and recover from public health emergencies and disasters. This program offers a comprehensive curriculum covering disaster risk assessment, epidemiological surveillance during crises, emergency preparedness planning, and the psychosocial impacts of disasters. Students will engage with theoretical frameworks and practical applications relevant to a range of disaster scenarios, including natural hazards, disease outbreaks, and complex humanitarian emergencies. Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary approaches, fostering collaboration among public health practitioners, policymakers, and community stakeholders. Graduates will be prepared for leadership roles in national and international organizations focused on disaster preparedness, humanitarian aid, and public health resilience.
